Why I Love Houston: White Linen Night!

Welcome to my Why I Love Houston Series, where I share my favorite Houston experiences and excursions. My goal is to make my hometown of Houston more accessible to the ever-changing mix of folks adopting our amazing city as their home base and reminding natives of the hidden gems throughout H-town.

Why I love Houston….White Linen Night in the Heights!

Most Houstonians seek the shelter of indoor A/C during the month of August. But the Heights embraces the swampy days of summer by donning white linen and lots of libations to keep cool while carousing the neighborhood during White Linen Night scheduled for Saturday, August 6, 2016, 6-10 pm along the 200 and 300 blocks of 19th Street. White Linen Night has its origins in New Orleans where the city turns out for art openings in their white linen best. The Heights version, celebrating its 10th year, functions as an open house to the ‘hood for the whole city to enjoy with local businesses hosting bands in their parking lots and plenty of people-watching too! The evening serves as a reminder that you can find a close-knit community in the big city.

Highlights for this year’s White Linen Night include:

  • Shop and sip along 19th Street with live music serenading White Linen revelers
  • View the #BlissfulFlowerWall created by artist Lisa Chow at Blissful Indulgence Spa
  • Head to Fitzgerald’s on White Oak for a lineup of local bands on 3 stages at 6 pm
  • Redbud Gallery and G Gallery on 11th Street host art openings
Have fun!
