Small Business Saturday! November 24, 2018

Small Business Saturday, wedged between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, is a shout-out to the local brick & mortars, mom and pops, and Htown entrepreneurs who I look forward to supporting during the holiday shopping season. The concept of Small Business Saturday started in 2010 as a way to inspire residents all over the USA to patronize businesses owned by locals instead of just the big box chain stores.

One of my favorite areas of the city to shop locally for unique finds is the Heights – especially 19th Street where you can find antiques, Mexican folk art at Casa Ramirez, menswear at Manready Mercantile, clothing and accessories for women at Emerson Rose, and great gifts at Jubilee.

Houston’s art markets are also a great source for shopping small. Check out Saturday’s Blue Field Market in EaDo from 6-10 pm and the Winter Flea by Night at Downtown’s Discovery Green, 6-10 pm.

Bookstores are fun for the whole family – independent booksellers, Brazos Bookstore on Bissonnet and Memorial’s Blue Willow Bookshop are both hosting Small Business Saturday events with story times and treats!

Happy Thanksgiving Houston!
