Norman Rockwell in Houston

Even though Houston is the nation’s 4th largest city, our Texas metropolis contains areas reminscent of small town America. Old Town Spring, 19th Street in the HeightsWest U and Bellaire, along with the tight-knit communties of Memorial Villages and the East End would all make ideal subjects for the master of Americana painting, Norman Rockwell.

The Museum of Fine Arts is currently hosting an exhibition of Norman Rockwell’s paintings-the first exhibition devoted to the artist’s Four Freedoms series created in 1943. Along with Rockwell’s paintings celebrating America’s freedoms, the exhibition includes his magazine illustrations with accompanying documents and video providing historical context to the artwork. Photographs by other artists depicting American life complement the powerful exhibit which is on display through March 22, 2020.
