The Houston Arboretum and Nature Center is one of the city’s best ways to experience the great outdoors. With always free admission, there’s no reason not to stop in for a nature break, seven days a week, from dawn to dusk. There’s a diverse selection of trails offering light hikes and plenty of scenic views. Be sure to try out these trails on your next visit!
- The Ravine Trail reopened last year boasting boardwalks and even a little elevation in our city that’s notoriously flat. Muralist Anat Ronen’s owl keeps an eye on visitors too.
- The Donor Boardwalk offers universal access to individuals of all abilities and a serene backdrop.
- The Meadow Trails leads to a large pond where you’ll likely see turtles basking in the sun and maybe a glimpse of the resident alligator.
- The Buttonbush Trail, named after the flowering plant common in wet areas, has a wetfield station and swamp to educate Houstonians about our local ecosystem.
And be sure to check out the Arboretum’s calendar full of activities for all ages – from owl prowls to foraging for edible wild plants.
Happy trails,
Kathlyn
