MFAH’s New Kinder Building Highlights

With its geometric design and exterior covered in glass tubes that glow at night, the Nancy and Rich Kinder Building at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston is the city’s latest architectural wonder. The interior is just as stunning with a translucent ceiling that casts light through the three-story atrium. As the MFAH’s third gallery building, it is dedicated to the musuem’s large collection of modern and contemporary art, including eight new site-specific commissioned artworks. Be sure not to miss these highlights when you visit.

Connecting the Kinder Building to the Law Building is the underground pedestrian tunnel filled with the vivid light installation by Carlos Cruz-Diez.

Hanging from the ceiling like a floating dragon is the commissioned piece by Ai Weiwei, the famous contemporary Chinese artist and activist.

On the plaza, a pool of water slowly fills around the gnarly roots and boulders before receding in the interactive bronze sculpture by Spanish artist Cristina Iglesias.

Enjoy the art!
