Discovery Green’s Day of the Dead Celebration

As part of Discovery Green’s Dia de los Muertos celebrations, 10 seven-foot tall skulls are on display throughout the park and on Avenida de las Americas. Celebracion de Vida is a public art installation by MEXICRANEOS, an artist collective based in Mexico City, who will be showcasing their massive skulls in the United States for the first time.

Each vibrant sculpture was painted by a different artist representing their Mexican culture, some using traditional Day of the Dead motifs, like marigolds and skeletons, while others look like an abstract street mural. You have until November 7th to visit and decide which skull is your favorite!

On Dia de los Muertos (November 1st from 4-9pm), local artist Angel Quesada will be creating a special community altar to celebrate the lives of family and friends who have died. All are welcome to participate by placing a copy of a photo or a memento on the altar to represent a lost loved one.
